Who we are

With rapid modernization, indigenous cultural values in Arunachal Pradesh face an imminent risk of vanishing. Traditionally, cultural teachings were transmitted orally from older to younger generations, but technological advances and changing lifestyles have widened the gap between them. This poses a significant challenge to cultural continuity. Recognizing the urgency to bridge this divide and enable the smooth transmission of values, the Donyi Polo Cultural and Charitable Trust was established.

To safeguard the indigenous culture of Arunachal Pradesh, the Donyi Polo Cultural and Charitable Trust established the Menjwk Meqkok Rwguu in Basar, Leparada district. This Gurukul-style institution, founded in 2022, combines the CBSE syllabus with teachings on indigenous values and cultural practices for 73 Galo students in classes I-III. The school's mission is to provide comprehensive education preserving and promoting Galo cultural heritage, fostering identity, and preparing students for the modern world. The Galo people, known for their agricultural lifestyle, celebrate festivals like Mopin, showcasing traditional dances and prayers. Their unique attire and belief system, rooted in the Donyi Polo Faith, reflect a blend of animism and ancestor worship. The Menjwk Meqkok Rwguu school strives to safeguard Galo tribal traditions and inspire indigenous education initiatives in the region.

Our work and its impact

The Donyi Polo Cultural and Charitable Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the rich indigenous culture of Arunachal Pradesh, emphasising education as a vital tool for transmitting cultural values to the younger generation. In the remote village of Kaadw, Daacw Moorw, Basar, Arunachal Pradesh, where early education is crucial, we strive to encourage education for the children of the remote region by making it accessible to all. Through schools like the one in Basar, we not only provide early education but also nurture a deep appreciation for indigenous culture, empowering children to shape a brighter future while preserving and passing down their cultural legacy for generations to come.

How we will utilise these books

The students at Menjwk Meqkok Rwguu show a lot of excitement and dedication to their studies, which inspires others. Even though the school is new, these students are determined to do well and set a good example for future students. The books donated by Pratham Books will help them learn more and discover new things. These books will not only help them think better but also introduce them to different ideas and knowledge they need to do well.
