Who we are
In Arunachal Pradesh, fast-changing lifestyles are creating a gap between generations, and young children risk losing touch with their culture. The Donyi Polo Cultural and Charitable Trust (DPCCT) is here to change that. We provide education that honours Indigenous traditions while preparing children for the modern world.
At Nyubu Nyvgam Yerko Mwya Gurukul in Keyi Panyor, 125 Nyishi children live and learn like in a traditional Gurukul. Here, CBSE academics meet storytelling, music, crafts, and lessons in language, rituals, and moral values. Children don’t just study—they dance, sing, create, and explore their heritage every day, growing in confidence and curiosity.
The Nyishi community is full of vibrancy—bamboo and cane artisans, weavers, festival-lovers, and nature stewards. Our Gurukul ensures these children carry their rich traditions into the future while learning modern skills.
Our work and its impact
Our Gurukul blends modern academics with cultural learning. Earlier reading programs with Pratham Books showed just how excited children get with the stories—they read aloud, share tales, and let their imagination run wild!
This campaign aims to provide more books to sustain and deepen this engagement, helping children discover new ideas, think critically, and develop a lifelong love for reading.
How we will utilise these books
The donated books will be used in daily reading sessions, storytelling circles, and group discussions. Children will have the opportunity to explore stories at their own pace, fostering curiosity, building confidence, and encouraging creative thinking.
These books will strengthen both reading ability and cultural connection, helping children develop a love for reading while staying rooted in their identity and heritage.
