Who we are
Sankalp Ek Prayas is a non-profit organisation for children’s education that was established in 2011 and primarily works in the field of primary education in rural Chhattisgarh. Our mission is ‘Helping rural Indian children realise their full potential through education’, and to this end, we are currently working with 300 education centres and 600+ volunteers in five districts.
Our work and its impact
With the support of many stakeholders and community members, we have successfully established 300 learning centres in rural Chhattisgarh. Our aim is to develop a learning environment that’s filled with both fun and learning and our teaching methods and learning tools are developed keeping in mind the children’s learning levels. All the centres are run by volunteer teachers and faculty from the local community. The primary goal is to make learning a more joyful experience for children accessing mainstream education in rural India.
How we will utilise these books
Studies have suggested that there are many benefits to developing a reading habit at a young age. It’s important for children to see themselves represented in the books. The more they enjoy reading and find meaning in it, the more they will want to read. Each of our learning centres has two or three volunteers teaching an average of 25 students each. Daan Utsav or the Joy of Giving Week is India’s biggest Festival of Giving. We are setting up small libraries with diverse content to convert our learning centres into safe and joyful reading spaces. With the funds from our Daan Utsav campaign, we will set up a library in certain identified model demonstration centres with 50+ storybooks from Pratham Books. The objective is to help each child develop a reading habit, improve their comprehension skills and encourage them to explore the world of storybooks.
