Who we are

Mera Gaon Meri Dunia (MGMD), is an NGO with a vision of building a world that nurtures youth and help them bring sustainable social change within their communities. We are working towards the transformation of the Youth Development and Education sector at the grassroots level. The idea that just one dedicated and invested youth can transform one village is the foundation our organisation is built upon. One Youth One Village is not just a slogan, but a movement to bring change to India’s villages.

Our work and its impact

Sparsh is a rural youth-led community learning centre that works to bridge the gap in primary school children’s learning outcomes. Mera Gaon Meri Dunia identifies, mobilises, and trains the youth to volunteer at the learning centres in their own villages. They take classes for younger students and build a foundation for peer and social-emotional learning. The centre also organises learning circles for parents to spread awareness of the importance of education. The youth from ten villages meet bi-weekly and their collective work at the community centres has a direct impact on hundreds of students.

How we will utilise these books

The funds raised from this campaign will be used to establish libraries in ten villages to celebrate Daan Utsav. Daan Utsav or, the Joy of Giving Week is celebrated every year in India from October 2nd to 8th and is India’s biggest festival of giving during which people from all over the country join hands to perform acts of kindness.
The Sparsh Education Leaders will manage these mini-libraries. Students from these villages will access the storybooks and teachers will use these books to cultivate a love for reading and promote foundational literacy. They will also use the books in their lesson plans, and organise read-aloud sessions. Pratham Books’ delightful STEM storybooks in mother tongue languages will help the children read independently and learn about Science and Maths in a fun and creative way.
