Who we are
At Teach For India, we believe that at the root of the education crisis lies a leadership crisis. There is a severe deficit of people within the Indian education system who are committed to working together to improve the capacity and quality of our nation's schools. The fact is that teachers alone cannot solve this crisis; we also need excellent school principals to support those teachers, informed parents to stay engaged with the teaching-learning process in schools, visionary bureaucrats and politicians to create an environment that enables principals and teachers to thrive, active civil society leaders to hold stakeholders accountable, and committed corporate leaders to mobilise the necessary resources to support school systems. Teach For India exists precisely to fill this deficit of leadership in education.
Our work and its impact
I am Samruddhi, and I work with Teach For India, Delhi as a Fellow. I teach English in a 6th grade classroom of 60 children from an under-resourced community in Munirka village. At Teach For India, I work toward designing interventions that lead to holistic outcomes for my students. I believe that there is a conscious need to educate children to face the challenges of today while preparing them to face the challenges of tomorrow, and in doing so, think of ways in which children from socially and economically disadvantaged communities can get access to quality education and resources.
How we will utilise these books
Daan Utsav is India’s biggest festival of giving and during this weeklong festival I am crowdfunding storybooks for a library in Sarvodaya Co-ed School where I teach. The funds raised will be used to get books that will be used for classroom readaloud sessions, and shared reading classes, and to give students access to quality and multilingual reading material from Pratham Books that will help them build their reading skills.
