Who we are
Share A Book India Association is a registered non-profit organisation working towards Sustainable Development Goals #4 i.e. Universal Quality Education. To achieve this, we are revolutionising public education by making reading accessible and affordable for everyone through school and community libraries. We are working with 175 schools and 10 communities in 16 states and 3 union territories in India.
Our work and its impact
We aim to enable critical thinking in all citizens and to ensure quality education for all the children in India. We provide each child with the opportunity to ‘Read, Imagine, Grow’ by setting up libraries and ensuring equitable learning opportunities for children in every spectrum of society. The idea is to let no child drop out of school, to empower them with basic comprehension skills, and most importantly, ensure that they hone their reading skills before they pass primary school.
How we will utilise these books
We prepare library kits for the schools after conducting a need assessment. The books are sourced based on the children’s reading levels and are then divided into five levels. Our volunteers and teachers conduct readaloud sessions and activities as part of our three-month-long Library Development Programme. We set up a sustainable library system which is managed by the children, monitored by the teachers and in which books are issued every week and a reading hour is a part of the school curriculum. This Daan Utsav, we are celebrating the Joy of Giving week by building a library for 2000 children in Lolab, a Himalayan valley in Jammu & Kashmir.
