Who we are
Kalupur Public School, situated in a dense urban neighbourhood in Ahmedabad, is an AMC government school with 750 students from kindergarten to grade 8. In this Teach for India intervention school, we are a group of 4 Fellows working with the existing staff of 15 teachers in the pursuit of giving our students an excellent education. Under the determined leadership of HM Jasmine Shaikh, the school hopes to build a movement towards fostering a holistic reading culture amongst our first-generation English learners.
Our work and its impact
We define excellent education as one that focuses on values and mindsets as much as it does on academics. We intend to create a community of creative critical thinkers, who grow into conscious and compassionate members of society. We hope that education in this direction will empower the students to become independent and make their own choices.
How we will utilise these books
We believe that creating a thriving reading culture supported by an environment where reading is valued, promoted and actively encouraged is the need of the hour. The books raised from the campaign will be utilised for both reading programmes and a library. We believe that books will play a significant role in our students’ lives. We wish to build a reading space that will engage all the children and young adults, from Pre-KG to 8th Grade, and a library that is not just a 'free hour' space but a part of their daily academics. Daan Utsav or the Joy of Giving festival is celebrated every year in October and is India’s biggest festival of giving during which people from all over the country join hands to perform acts of kindness. This season of giving, help foster a reading culture for children.
