Who we are
At Teach For India, we believe leadership for education is the solution to the education crisis in India. We are building a movement of leaders who will eliminate educational inequity in India. Our vision for our students is holistic and integrates academic achievement with values and mindsets, and exposure and access, equipping our students to graduate from school and live up to their full potential.
Our work and its impact
As a Teach for India fellow, I teach second-grade students in a low-income school in Ahmedabad. Along with numeracy and literacy, I have been focusing more on their holistic development as co-curricular activities are also essential. These kids have limited access to basic necessities but if they get the right exposure and support they can do wonders in their own way and can uplift their community. These kids are going to grow up to be India’s future and it’s my goal to give them access to as many resources as possible.
How we will utilise these books
Daan Utsav or, the Joy of Giving Week is celebrated every year in India from October 2nd to 8th and is India’s biggest festival of giving during which people from all over the country join hands to perform acts of kindness.
100% of the funds raised from my campaign will be used to get children’s multilingual storybooks which will be used every day in class during circle time. The students will read books appropriate to their reading level and then review and summarise what they have read, and draw parallels to real life. This will help them build their vocabulary and increase their knowledge. They’ll also be exposed to different themes and genres which will help them build a regular reading habit.
