Who we are
PROJECT TALEEM is an initiative by GSM Foundation. We are running a learning support program in the slums of Balta House where children reside in the worst neglected living conditions. For over 2 years now our team have been reading and story telling on a weekly basis. Most of these beneficiaries are Girls, who are often restricted to leave their home and we strongly feel a community library will be a way forward to help them step out , explore the world thru books and share a space empower themselves to education.
Our work and its impact
We are a team of 5 working in the slums of Balta House on the Banks of Yamuna on a slum Education Project called ‘Taleem’ . This project is run under GSM Foundation which is a registered (2010) non government organisation in India with Jamia Nagar – New Delhi works as an epicentre of most of our outreach programs and activities.
How we will utilise these books
Our project is envisaged to have both school-based intervention and community-based intervention is to provide a more holistic learning environment to Early First time Learners- mostly Dropouts and Children who have never attended a regular school . Our mission is to bring the First Time Learners in the Mainstream Education System , minimize the number of school drop outs between 6-14. So far, we have grown our learners from a class of 10 to currently about 100 enrolment which reflect s the improved learning outcomes and has generated a valuable interest among parents of slums GSM Foundation aims to utilise the funds to set up a community in-house library by the end of the year 2018. The funds raised will be used to buying of the books for children in English, Hindi & Urdu
