Who we are
Dr.APJ Abdul Kalam once said, “Books enable the children to view the past, use the experience for the present and dream for the future".
देहाती चौपाल is an initiative to share the joy of reading with children in rural Rajasthan. We work with children in government schools and expose them to opportunities that are otherwise inaccessible. We want to be the wind beneath their wings and give them all the resources they need to soar higher.
Our work and its impact
Mahatma Gandhi once said, "A man is but the product of his thoughts. What he thinks, he becomes". Reading storybooks has a powerful impact on a child’s intellectual development. But not all children in our society have easy access to high-quality storybooks. In order to bridge the gap, we are aiming to provide classroom libraries with colourful storybooks in languages the children understand and help them discover the joy of reading. They will be allowed to take the books home to read at leisure while simultaneously developing their linguistic and communication skills.
How we will utilise these books
The funds from our campaign will be used to set up ten joyful classroom libraries across government schools in the Surajgarh Block of Jhunjhunu district in Rajasthan. Each library will have 100 delightful storybooks in Hindi and English.
We firmly believe in R. David Lankes’ quote, "Bad libraries build collections, good libraries build services, great libraries build communities.” We will work hard to ensure the quality of the content and the effective use of these libraries. We will ensure that children are allowed to read the books and borrow them regularly. We have also approached a few school management committees to include reading and comprehension-based activities in their weekly class schedules.
In its initial phase, this campaign will impact 1000+ students and fuel their imagination and inspire them to dream big. Even a small contribution will have a lasting impact on the lives of these children.
