Who we are
Reading Space is a very small children's library in Cuddalore, a town near Pondicherry. We conduct weekly read aloud sessions for about 200 children from Class 1 to 3 in a small school here. We require exciting and engaging books to inspire these children to read more.
Our work and its impact
Reading Space, a small children's library, begun in November 2014 with the sole objective of making contemporary Indian books available to children in Cuddalore and to celebrate books and reading. We used our limited resources to buy books and set up a library at home. The library has around 350 books currently and we regularly keep adding to our collection.
How we will utilise these books
We work towards making an eclectic collection of contemporary Indian books accessible to children in the town. We organize interactive programs for children where we discuss about these books. We also screen movies and do art and craft sessions to provide an enriching experience for children and to make the space more informal and vibrant. We collaborate with schools in the community to organize literary programs – book fairs, author, storyteller or artist interactions with children – to celebrate books and foster reading in children. We have reached out to over 300 students in the past 10 months and we dream to take this further. The funds raised through this campaign will be used to procure books for over 200 children and used during their weekly reading sessions.
