Who we are

VIDYA (VIDYA INTEGRATED DEVELOPMENT FOR WOMEN AND YOUTH) is a non-profit organisation. Over 35 years we've impacted the lives of 4,00,000 people. Founded by Ms. Rashmi Misra in 1985, it began with her teaching a class of five girls at her home on IIT Delhi’s campus. Currently, we have 78 projects spread across Delhi, Gurugram, Bangalore, Mumbai and Pune. Our goal is to Educate, Empower and Transform lives through education. Our multifaceted approach method to improve literacy combines academic, vocations, mental and physical well-being and life skills.

Our work and its impact

Through the VIDYA School in Gurugram, established NIOS centres, Bal Vihar School and Beyond school programme, we provide remedial education to school students to improve their reading, writing, comprehension, spoken English and computer skills.

Youth Digital Empowerment Programme (DEP) aims to bridge the digital divide by offering computer literacy.

Scholarship programme - this programme in partnership with donors provides scholarship support for underprivileged students to continue their pre-university, undergraduate, engineering and vocational training courses.

Bhagini Women Empowerment Programme - empowering women through spoken English, computer education, NIOS and Nursery Teachers Training, skill-based vocational training, conducting wellness programmes, yoga and health camps.

Shakti Livelihood Programme - an exclusive programme which empowers women by equipping them with the skills to become self-reliant.

How we will utilise these books

This Children’s Day, we are raising funds to get delightful storybooks from Pratham Books for our school as well as our partner schools in Bangalore and will be read by 2000+ students. We will also use the books during our spoken English classes, life skills and reading sessions.
