Who we are
Children of India Foundation is a nonprofit organisation that works with children and families from low-income backgrounds. We address social issues like child labour, child marriage, child sexual exploitation and gender-based violence in Jharkhand, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu and Kerala. We believe that children are changemakers, and child participation, advocacy and life skills training form the pillars of our work approach. We also provide children and families with support services in education, healthcare and livelihood.
Our work and its impact
We educate children about child rights, child protection laws, advocacy mechanisms and life skills to help them become independent. Through our training programmes, children have enrolled in schools, solved community-level civic issues and presented their concerns to government officials. We believe that this is true empowerment, as children become fearless, independent, and take charge of their own development. We also help children receive higher education and help families increase their incomes.
How we will utilise these books
The children we work with live in remote parts of India and are cut off from the rest of the world. Reading storybooks will help them know more about the world, introduce them to interesting facts, spark their curiosity and help them study better. We have set up mobile libraries in villages to distribute books to children which they exchange amongst each other. The funds raised from this campaign will help us extend our reach to impact nearly 39,000 children and provide them with Pratham Books’ multilingual storybooks. This will help them improve their reading and writing, communication, and cognitive skills.
