Who we are
I am raising funds to build a classroom library for 4th grade children studying in a corporation school(Chennai Primary school, T.H.Road) , Chennai. This program is an attempt to create a liking towards reading among the children.
Our work and its impact
I am a Teach for India fellow working as a full time teacher in a corporation school in Chennai.
How we will utilise these books
I teach a bunch of 36 4th graders with a majority either coming from the fishermen communities or the Tsunami quarters housing many of the Tsunami hit families from Chennai. Due to the existence of wide learning gap among the students, I run a differentiated literacy program in partnership with my 4th grade collegues. I teach the struggling readers and children with learning difficulties. In order to help my children jump litearcy levels, I find it very important to have dedicated reading time everyday. The money donated by you wlll be used to set up a classroom library.
