Who we are

Need Base India (A Foundation for Child Care and Development) is a non-profit organisation established in 2009. Our mission is to provide care, protection, love and affection to children devoid of parental care, empower them through education and give them the opportunities to lead a happy childhood.

Mr Rahim Shaik, the Founder has been working with children for the past 15 years and was also a member of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) in Bangalore from 2007 to 2010. The organisation’s vision is ‘To stand for the Child Rights and guarantee that every child gets a Happy Childhood, thus enabling children to become responsible citizens’.

Our work and its impact

Our work can be broadly categorised into six focus areas:
1. Care and Protection
2. Education
3. Special-needs Children
4. Girl Child Project
5. Awareness Programmes
6. Family and Social Reintegration

Need Base India works with families who, for various reasons, do not have the resources to raise their children adequately. In circumstances like these, the child’s safety and well-being are not always guaranteed. So to ensure their care and protection, we run eight residential centres’ in Bangalore on government school premises. Since 2009 we have rescued 4000 children from the streets, runaways and orphans.

How we will utilise these books

We are currently running eight residential homes across Bangalore. With the funds from this campaign, we will set up libraries for the children in these homes. Storybooks bring joy and enable fun-filled learning. Pratham Books’ storybooks for children explore a variety of themes and the multilingual books will help the children develop their reading skills in both their mother tongue language and English, thus improving their linguistic skills. The books will be sources of inspiration and happiness for these kids who’ve faced difficult situations early in their lives.
