Who we are
We are reaching out for a contribution of simple, colourful and engaging storybooks for young readers in the Kali Gandaki valley of the Mustang district in the Himalayas. These books will also be a part of a travelling library accompanied by storytellers and puppeteers.
Our work and its impact
In ecological sensitive areas, how one engages with the community and young generation of students is a fine balance between honoring rich vernacular knowledge and introducing relevant contemporary content that can add to and not take away from the way of life that these communities have evolved over generations. Storytelling is a playful and powerful medium to do so. Not only introducing stories, but through visually illustrated storybooks spark an interest of narrating and documenting one's own local stories.
How we will utilise these books
The relationship that a child can have with stories and books is the window to their imagination, creativity, understanding of the world and can be how the begin to use words, descriptions and characters to perceive the larger world. We believe in stories as a medium of learning, reflecting, community sharing and so much more. Having wonderful books that communicate simple and engaging stories gives us tools that will help our work. The funds we raise through the campaign will allow us to buy a selection of books whose stories and content students can relate to and expose them to different environments.
