Who we are

Our journey started with 'Socio-Economic Analysis of Waste Pickers working in Jalgaon City'. The results from the data collected through in-depth interviews of 400 waste pickers were rather deplorable and they emphasis a need to work on three important aspects: Education, Health, and De-addiction. We realized Education is key to tackle the issue of health and addiction. The idea is to create an eco-system of learning and support for streete children specially child waste pickers and child labors. Started in 2014 with mere 10-12 kids Anandghar has reached more than 300 children in the last 5 years.

Our work and its impact

Vardhishnu – Social Research & Development Society is a Jalgaon based not-for-profit that addresses the problem of lack of education in and lack of sustainable employment opportunities for the most underprivileged communities of daily wage-earners. Briefly, to solve this problem, Vardhishnu designed and implemented two interventions: - Anandghar: Started in 2014, to provide a safe, secure and happy childhood to street children, especially child waste-pickers and child labors. - Saksham: Started in August 2018, it provides a sustainable livelihood to women from economically disadvantaged communities.

How we will utilise these books

Anandghar (A Home of Happiness): The idea is to create an eco-system of learning and support for children. It is achieved through community Learning Centers called Anandghar (A Home of Happiness). These centers act as a bridge between children, parents, schools, and society at large. They provide basic formal & informal education and skills to street children specially child waste pickers and child labors and make them capable of joining mainstream schools to cope with the learning process in the school. • Over the last 4 years, 100+ children have been taken out the vicious cycle of child labor • 250+ children are enrolled (and sustained) in mainstream schools. The funds will be utilized to set up 3 community libraries as a part of Anandghar program. The books will cater to the need of around 150 to 180 children considering each center will be attended by 50 to 60 children. The books will help to inculcate the habit of reading, they will also help to improve reading comprehension. Through books, children will spend time in the library rather than roaming around the city.
