The excitement and anticipation is high when I walk in with a new story book.... These little ones might not be able to reading a sentence yet, but that does not discourage them from trying to pick out the couple of words they have learnt and decipher the story from the pictures even before I start reading to them.... And once I start reading, the excitement is at its peak.... they need to act out the scenes in the story and make sure they enjoy the story
Our work and its impact
I am a Fellow working in TEACH FOR INDIA, and I am currently teaching 4th Graders in Channasandra Govt School. Here, it is Kannada Medium till 5th grade while I am teaching Maths and English and I do not know Kannada :-)
How we will utilise these books
Teaching English right from the lower grades helps the kids pick up well in higher grades. Inculcating reading habits now will ensure a strong language and communication skill which in today's industry is very important. we are working towards providing an EXCELLENT EDUCATION It is this love for stories that will one day help them speak and write excellent English. Let's come together and give them that opportunity they deserve, come donate to give them the stories that will change their future... that will mold their future.... The funds will be utilized to set up Libraries in classrooms not only for my class but from the 350+ kids in the entire school....
