Who we are
DAS’s holistic approach intensified in the areas of education, addressing the needs of different age group in the form of 6 pre-schools, 4 preparatory centers, open school (NOS) for older girls to complete class X, and 2 Non-Residential camps for out of school-- to mainstream either to the Govt. school or a vocation. As books are important system of Education Process we request for' library in a classroom 'concept to be set up in all our centers ans schools.
Our work and its impact
Development Action Society (DAS) is a woman based organization and is committed towards the sustainable development of marginalized women, children & youth through education, health, protection and livelihoods. DAS was established in 1989 with the motto of “development of underprivileged women and children, regardless of their race, creed or religion; changing their world with the right kind of opportunities.” DAS initiated to support and strengthen the capacity of marginalized women and children in the sub-urban disadvantaged population of South and Southeast Kolkata from 1995 onwards.
How we will utilise these books
Since 1995 our assistance has reached approx 8922 children in the age group of 3-18 years and has mainstreamed 5165 out of school children in the local govt. formal schools till 2016. Presently 1000 children are continuing in DAS run pre educational centers, after school coaching support, children parliament representatives, active children group members, Child protection members, Wash committee members. DAS also covers referral women and child cases for access to health services. DAS has reached-out to 200 school dropout girls, boys and women in different Vocational / Occupational/ Skill Building (Tailoring, Tie & Dye, Jute and Jute Diversified Products, Poultry, Beautician, Security Guard, Driving, Facility Management, AC Repairing, Nursing, Cookery, Housekeeping etc.)DAS has formed and capacitated 95 women group members and 88 Child Protection Committee members. DAS aims to set up Library-in-a-classroom setup in 6 centers run by DAS for children of 3 to 18 years of age.We aim to facilitate access to good quality of books and reading materials for the children in those 6 centers.
