Who we are
Asha Bhavan Centre (ABC) is a non-profit organisation, working for the welfare of marginalised communities in remote areas of West Bengal since 1999. The mission of Asha Bhavan Centre is to create meaningful opportunities for their social and economic development to help them gain dignity and self-confidence in life.
Asha Bhavan Centre provides quality education and support through its chain primary school system and its coaching centres to underprivileged children from rural areas of West Bengal. It also promotes the rights of Persons with Disabilities with its community-based Rehabilitation programme and provides residential care to children with special needs.
Our work and its impact
Asha Bhavan Centre (ABC) provides quality education and support with modern educational infrastructure through its chain of Bengali-medium pre-primary and primary schools “Bodhoday Vidya Mandir” (BVM). At present, ABC has 10 schools in remote areas with nearly 1800 students enrolled in total.
ABC also runs 23 coaching centres for nearly 600 underprivileged children enrolled in government schools.
Most children were identified by ABC and integrated into these programmes because they are from underprivileged families and do not receive any monetary help to succeed in their education. Their families maintain their livelihood through agriculture and farming.
These programmes aim to support these children so that they can succeed in their academics and qualify for higher education.
How we will utilise these books
Through this campaign, each school and coaching centre will receive delightful Bengali storybooks from Pratham Books to encourage more than 2,300 underprivileged children to read in their mother tongue language. The various themes explored in these books will help kindle curiosity and set children on the path to becoming lifelong readers.
