Who we are
I work for Teach for India and teach grade 4 and 5 students in a Government school in Ahmedabad. Every book I receive will go in the hands of my kids, who never really got a chance to own a beautiful story book. These books will help to increase the knowledge and wisdom of the poor children and will be used individually by all of them. This is for the first time that these kids will have a library in their classroom which is going to help them become thoughtful readers.
Our work and its impact
I am Gaurav Dobhal currently a fellow with Teach for India. I teach in a Goverment School, located in the community of Thakkarbapa Nagar in the city of Ahmedabad. The community has an almost absence of the awareness for education. Lack of financial resources makes the situation worse. With the funds that I will raise here, I plan to make my hardworking underprivileged kids excellent readers and also the role models for their community.
How we will utilise these books
Teach For India places Fellows for a period of two years in full-time teaching positions in low-income schools. We strive to place Fellows within high-need schools - where poverty and other environmental factors may limit our students’ choices in the future. Within their classrooms, Fellows are responsible for ensuring that their students reach ambitious academic and personal goals that are deeply grounded in their context and developed in partnership with key people in our children’s lives - parents, other teachers, and community members. These funds will be utilized to establish a library in my classroom, which will help my kids become better readers and future leaders.
