Who we are
Namaste. Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam once said, "One Best Book is equal to Hundred Good Friends, One Good Friend is equal to a Library". We believe that a child who can read becomes a citizen who can lead. And 'Reading', as a habit, is what we want to develop in our students which cannot be forced on anyone but needs an environment rich of colourful books and interesting stories. So, here we are, determined to give the same to our students. This is a step towards making reading fun and books available for all.
Our work and its impact
Sachin Primary School was established before independence and is running since 1875. It is a Upper Primary Government School (standard 1-8) in the industrial town of Sachin in Surat district. The school staff has 17 teachers which serve students from many different communities like halpathi, muslim, migrants from other states etc. with majority of parents working as industrial and farm labourers. We firmly believe that education is a right for all and it plays a crucial role in making responsible, empathetic and conscious citizens.
How we will utilise these books
The school provides free and QUALITY EDUCATION, mid-day meal and access to many facilities like clean drinking water, smart classrooms etc. to students coming from low economic sections of the society. Many parents lack basic education and very few of them understand its importance. Apart from teaching, the society is made aware about government schemes and the school acts as a bridge between the government and the society. This year THREE of our students hailing from these communities were selected for "NATIONAL MEANS cum MERIT SCHOLARSHIP (NMMS)" 2018-19. Also, this month (Feb'19) our Garba team won the FIRST PRIZE in BLOCK LEVEL Gramya Kala ane Sanskrutik Mahotsav (Culture and Art Mega-Festival) while in the Chitra Kala (Painting) section a student bagged the FIRST PRIZE in the DISTRICT level and was selected for the STATE level competition. Again, the school's SCIENCE PROJECT went twice to the DISTRICT LEVEL (2016-17;2017-18). The funds will be used in two ways: 1. To setup 10 Library-in-a-Classroom (LIC) modules, one in each section from standard 1-5. This is to create an book friendly environment where students from the primary levels learn to interact and develop a bond with books and reading. 2. To setup a common library for students of standard 6-8. This is to ensure that all students get used to reading and doing activities in a library and develop a habit of visiting and using it. The campaign target aims to provide 4-5 books per student in the school.
