Who we are
Arunachal Pradesh's indigenous culture is at risk due to rapid modernization. Traditionally, knowledge was passed down orally, but new technologies and changing lifestyles have created a gap between generations. To address this, the Donyi Polo Cultural and Charitable Trust was founded, aiming to preserve cultural values and bridge the generational divide.
We launched Nilung Tungko, the fourth gurukul-style school, to preserve Arunachal Pradesh's indigenous culture. Located in Pabo, Komsing, Siang district, it integrates CBSE with indigenous teachings for 50 Adi students in classes I-II. Established in July 2023, the school aims to foster Adi heritage while equipping students for the modern world. The Adi community is known for bamboo weaving and vibrant festivals like Solung (Harvest festival), Etor (Village fences building/mending celebration), and Unying/Aran (community hunting/fishing festival), showcasing their traditions through dances like Ponung (womenfolk), Delong (menfolk), and Yakjong (unisex including children), as well as their music (miri) and local cuisine. Through Nilung Tungko Pabo's innovative approach, these traditions are safeguarded, setting a model for indigenous education in the region.
Our work and its impact
The Donyi Polo Cultural and Charitable Trust is deeply committed to preserving and celebrating the rich indigenous heritage of Arunachal Pradesh, recognizing education as a powerful means of passing on cultural values to the next generation. In the remote locality of Pabo, nestled within the village of Komsing in the Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh, where access to early education is pivotal, our mission is to promote education for all children in the region. Through initiatives like the school in Pabo, we not only provide early childhood education but also cultivate a profound respect for indigenous culture, empowering children to shape a promising future while safeguarding and perpetuating their cultural heritage for posterity.
How we will utilise these books
The students of Nilung Tungko Pabo, embarking on their educational journey, are filled with boundless curiosity and eagerness to learn. Their enthusiasm knows no bounds as they eagerly absorb knowledge and strive for excellence in their studies. Despite the school's recent establishment, these students exhibit unwavering determination to excel and serve as inspiring role models for their peers. The generous donation of books by Pratham Books will further fuel their thirst for knowledge, providing them with invaluable resources to explore new concepts and expand their understanding of the world. These books will not only nurture their curiosity but also empower them to think critically and creatively, laying a strong foundation for their academic and personal growth.
