Who we are
Founded by Rigzen Wangmo, a graduate of Harvard University, the Village Lab Foundation (VLF) is an ambitious initiative aimed at strengthening villages in Ladakh through an innovative intergenerational education model. Our goal is to transform villages into vibrant hubs of learning and collaboration. VLF is committed to providing quality, community-based experiential learning opportunities for learners in Ladakh villages. Our flagship initiative, "The Book Village," aims to turn Sumoor village into a hub of knowledge and wisdom by installing libraries throughout the village and fostering a culture of reading and love for literature among villagers.
Our work and its impact
Village Lab Foundation (VLF) is poised to launch its inaugural project, "The Book Village," in the Nubra Valley of Ladakh, India. Our objective is to cultivate a culture of reading in Ladakh villages, one village at a time, by providing opportunities and access to books for residents. This empowers and transforms the education system within these villages. VLF is dedicated to curating villages as learning laboratories and empowering villagers as facilitators. "The Book Village" will serve as a model for villages with limited access to quality books. We work closely with villagers to establish and facilitate learning spaces within the community, involving all generations in the learning process and promoting democratic learning.
How we will utilise these books
The Book Village project aims to install tiny libraries throughout the village, primarily near bus stops for school-going children, village gathering venues, school gates, and monasteries. Villagers will have access to books in every corner of the village. The VLF learning centre will also host villagers for reading circles and storytelling sessions. The joyful storybooks from Pratham Books will be utilised during the long (three-month) winter holidays in Ladakh when children seek activities and reading programs the most. Your contribution will significantly impact the lives of learners in Ladakh villages.
