Know more about us
Who we are
Teach For India is a non-profit and a movement of leaders that was founded by Shaheen Mistri in 2009. At Teach For India, we believe leadership for education is the solution. We are building a movement of leaders who will eliminate educational inequity in India.
Our work and its impact
The Teach For India Fellowship is an opportunity for India’s brightest and most promising youth, from the nation’s best universities and workplaces, to serve as full-time teachers to children from low-income communities in under-resourced schools.
Through two years of teaching and working with key education stakeholders, TFI Fellows are exposed to the grassroot realities of India’s education system and cultivate the knowledge, skills, and mindsets needed to attain positions of leadership in and beyond education, working collectively to build a vibrant movement for educational equity across India.
How we will utilise these books
My name is Rameshwar, and I am a Teach For India fellow working with the Swargeeya Vitthal Tupe School in Pune. I teach English (Reading Comprehension) to about 100 curious, compassionate, and starry-eyed 5th graders. The Covid-19 pandemic has negatively impacted reading habits among children. When the school re-opened we conducted a Reading Comprehension test for all 5th graders. The level they should be at is 1.5 but only eight students out of 100 are at level 1.5 and 60 of them are at level 0. To help them improve their reading skills, I want to give them colourful storybooks from Pratham Books that explore various themes and start a school library. The funds from this campaign will help me get storybooks for the 5th graders and help them get started on their reading journeys.
