Know more about us
Who we are
Sakshara Trust works with underprivileged children and adults to help them acquire critical skills that improve their quality of life and contribute to society. Our goal is to help them become self-sufficient and learn income-generating skills. We also work towards bridging the gap in children’s education and literacy that was widened during the Covid-19 pandemic due to a lack of educational resources through our ‘Reading for Literacy’ programme.
Our work and its impact
We work with children in government schools to provide additional educational and financial support so they don’t drop out of school. We also work with women to teach them how to knit and crochet so they can earn from selling the woollen blankets and amigurumi toys they make. We believe that these skills will help them become independent.
How we will utilise these books
The books from our campaign will be used by Sakshara Trust’s volunteers who work with children in classes 1 to 7 in the local government school. The storybooks will also be used by adults in their efforts to become literate in the languages they can speak.
