Who we are
The Maulana Afzal Hussain Mobile Library was started in Mumbai during the pandemic-induced lockdowns to encourage children to continue reading storybooks. The mobile library was initially meant solely for our school’s students. Today we have eight travelling libraries in Mumbai and surrounding suburbs in Govandi, Mumbra, Kurla, Bandra, Sewri, Deonar and Bhendi Bazar.
Our work and its impact
We conduct Open Book Quizzes and other competitions to motivate the kids to read regularly. We have also started the ‘Aao Kitabo se Dosti Karein’ (Let’s make friends with books) campaign. The children have now started writing short articles and participating in various competitions.
How we will utilise these books
The funds from this campaign will be used to get joyful storybooks from Pratham Books for eight mobile libraries. The libraries will help us take the magic of stories to approximately 1000 underprivileged kids in Mumbai and help them discover the joy of reading.
