Who we are
Team Tarunaai, a local group in rural Maharashtra, has been providing education to children from tribal communities in the Melghat region. As most of the children did not have access to electronic gadgets and internet connectivity during the Covid-19 pandemic, their learning was disrupted for two years. We are associated with the Free Libraries Network and have been working towards bridging this learning gap. Our latest effort includes building a community library filled with storybooks for the children who are full of curiosity and eager to learn.
Our work and its impact
Our work ensures that children are no longer deprived of an education. If provided with the necessary resources, they can escape the trap of child labour and grow up to become educated citizens. A free community library will be the first step towards achieving this goal.
How we will utilise these books
The funds from our campaign will be used to get Marathi and Hindi storybooks for the community library. The library will be a safe space for 300+ children to visit and explore the magical world of storybooks.
As the children have missed out on schooling for two years, they are behind their peers in terms of reading at their grade level. Pratham Books’ multilingual picture books in mother tongue languages will help them catch up so that soon they will be able to read fluently and independently.
