Who we are
Kishore Gurnomal Kanjani School is part of a 60-year-old organisation in Ahmedabad, Gujarat that educates students from low-income backgrounds. Due to constraints posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, the children’s learning outcomes over the past two years have been negatively affected. Many of them find it difficult to read storybooks written for their grade level.
Our work and its impact
As a Teach For India Fellow, I work with students in the second grade. We’re raising funds to set up a library for students in the 1st to 4th grades. With the help of age-appropriate storybooks in mother tongue languages, we hope to help our students achieve foundational literacy.
How we will utilise these books
The funds raised from our campaign will help us get delightful STEM storybooks from Pratham Books for over 350 children. A library will be set up in each classroom so they can directly access the books and teachers will also use them to simplify topics related to Science and Maths. We hope to inculcate a regular reading habit that will enable our students to read independently and explore the fascinating world of STEM.
