Who we are
We are a group of organisations working in rural areas of India towards quality education of children.
Swatantra Talim – works in rural Uttar Pradesh to build a culture of creative and critical thinking among children aged 6 to 16 years to nurture their potential and provide them with an explorative learning atmosphere.
SwaTaleem – works to increase decision-making and foundational skills in adolescent girls by implementing a transformative design process. Currently we are working with girls in 6 KGBVs (Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya) of Mewat and Panipat.
Shiksharth – Shiksharth is a not-for-profit working for children from conflict areas and adverse geographies to ensure safe spaces and excellent education through contextual education solutions. They are currently operating in Sukma, a tribal region in Chhattisgarh suffering from conflict because of left-wing extremism.
Our work and its impact
We are celebrating the joy of giving through DaanUtsav - India’s festival of giving. Launched in 2009, the festival is celebrated every year for seven days, commencing on Gandhi Jayanti. Millions of people from all walks of life come together to give their time, money, resources, or skills to contribute to society. They do this by creating or participating in events of their choice. A giving event could be as simple as a family taking their house help’s children out for an ice cream party, or as large as a Gift Compassion. A Gift Compassion is an event in which 10,000+ school children across India make and exchange gifts with their peers from different socio-economic backgrounds.
How we will utilise these books
This year 50,000 children from different parts of the country will come together to celebrate DaanUtsav by setting up a Community Library and conducting children-led storytelling workshops. They need your support to achieve their target of setting up 100 community libraries. The funds raised from the campaign will be used to procure delightful multilingual Pratham Books storybooks. They will be used in storytelling sessions, skits, and art workshops where parents and elders will participate and learn valuable life lessons on various social issues. After the week-long celebration, children from these rural and tribal communities will have direct access to storybooks in English and mother tongue languages to improve their reading, writing, and critical thinking skills.
