Who we are
Hasiru Dala, meaning green force, is a social impact organisation that works with waste workers to help them lead dignified lives. Hasiru Dala’s Buguri Children’s Programme works towards the betterment of these children’s lives through various initiatives that encourage them to stay in school and complete their education, and find safe spaces for them to grow despite the class barriers that they face. We also provide an environment that nurtures the children’s social, emotional, and cognitive growth. The Buguri Children’s Programme impacts 1000+ children of waste pickers and informal waste workers across Karnataka.
Our work and its impact
The Buguri Community Library Project manages community libraries in Bengaluru, Mysuru, and Tumakuru, catering to 600+ children who have access to 3000+ books. This is an after-school programme where children are part of a reading room, and have the opportunity to participate in programmes that engage them in the arts through storytelling sessions, book discussions, and read alouds.
How we will utilise these books
The funds raised from this campaign will be used to procure multilingual storybooks from Pratham Books for the Buguri Community Library Project. The books will be a part of the reading rooms and book-borrowing programmes that will help children gain access to a wide variety of STEM books. We hope that the children discover more of the world around them through these stories, and develop the habit of reading regularly and reading for joy.
