Who we are
Act India Foundation has been working with tribal and other disadvantaged communities in Tamil Nadu, India since 1995. Our programmes involve working in the fields of education, livelihood development, wildlife conservation, and agriculture. At present, we are working with Dalit, tribal, and farming communities in Dindigul district, Tamil Nadu.
Our work and its impact
Our current programme involves empowering girl children between the ages of 10 and 17 years to develop an interest in the field of space science. Through a STEM curriculum focused on astrophysics including classroom sessions, DIY activities, games, talent exhibitions and sky observations, we focus on improving the 4C skills - critical thinking, creative thinking, communication and collaboration - of these young girls. We have formed ten learning circles called the AstroAngels Club, through which we aim to encourage them to pursue careers in STEM and space sciences.
How we will utilise these books
The books will be utilised by members of the AstroAngels Club who gather in the evenings to read books and share stories with each other and with their communities. We hope that the storybooks from this campaign will motivate these young scientists to dream big and to discover the world of science through the magic of storybooks.
