Who we are
Piramal Foundation is an NGO that works mainly in the betterment of four sectors: education, healthcare, youth empowerment, and livelihood creation. The foundation was established in 2008, with a focus on improving learning outcomes in public schools. In Jaisalmer, we work with NITI AAYOG and the district administration’s district level and block level officers to carry out the Transformation of Aspirational Districts programme.
Our work and its impact
We engage with schools at the ground level and introduce innovations in teaching and learning processes. The outcome of those innovations is shared at block level and district level platforms, so that they can be adopted by district administration. We also work on strengthening the system by introducing various technological platforms, and conducting workshops with school and block leaders.
Our vision is to demonstrate change to the leaders and enable middle managers to execute innovations so they can sustain it on their own.
How we will utilise these books
We wish to revive the art of storytelling in Jaisalmer and introduce the habit of reading at a young age to enhance creativity and social-emotional development.
Our aim is to build functional libraries in schools in Jaisalmer and encourage the teachers to assign one study period to using the library. The books will also be used in assembly sessions where the children can talk about their favourite books to enhance their public-speaking skills.
As a pilot project, we will distribute the storybooks in ten schools and observe the effect it has on improving the children’s reading and writing skills. We will share these observations with the district administration so that the programme can be replicated all over Jaisalmer.
