Who we are
IIMPACT is a non-profit organization that provides educational opportunities to girls from socially and economically disadvantaged communities of India, who traditionally have no access to schooling. Our aim is to break the cycle of illiteracy that girls from such communities are mired in. This is done through local community-based Learning Centers, where they get meaningful and stimulating education up to Year 5 and are guided to their entry into mainstream education. We are supported by corporations, trusts, and individuals who want to make a difference.
Our work and its impact
The vision of IIMPACT is to transform the lives of women, families, and entire communities in India through the education and empowerment of the girl child. We mobilize and motivate non-school going girls between the ages of 6 and 14 from economically and socially backward rural areas of India, and put them firmly on the track of literacy through quality primary education.
Today IIMPACT educates 50,000 girls in 1500 villages in 11 States of India. Almost all the girls who complete the Class V program go on to middle and high school.
How we will utilise these books
Funds raised through this campaign will go towards getting storybooks from Pratham Books for the children we work with. These storybooks will be given to the girl children that we work with, for them to read at home to help them improve their language skills. We recognize that reading and comprehension are important components of primary education; they are critical foundational skills that also help children to learn other subjects too. These storybooks from Pratham Books will help the children we work with invaluably, giving them the opportunity to discover the joy of reading through delightful stories for children.
