Who we are
I am Aman Ghosh working as a fellow at Gandhi Fellowship at Piramal Foundation. I am working at an aspirational district Sahibganj, at Barhait block, and this district is basically a Santhali-majority district. The majority of students belonging to this community are from very poor economic backgrounds. That's why we decided to organize a campaign for developing government school libraries in these rural areas. We require books for our government schools and it will improve students' learning outcomes at grassroots level.
Our work and its impact
I am a fellow at Gandhi Fellowship under Piramal Foundation. This organization was established in 2008 to help improve students' learning outcomes. Our goal is to impact 10 million lives in 10 years. I am working at aspirational district Sahibganj at Barhait block, In this block, 80% of children belong to Santhali community and are from BPL category. My target is to chalk a new path for these children and set-up libraries at government schools in rural areas of Jharkhand.
How we will utilise these books
I work with children from government schools and block-level stakeholders. In my block, most government schools are in villages in inaccessible hilly terrain. The geographic isolation has rendered students learning outcomes (SLO) levels very low and my target is to improve SLO at school level, engage the community with schools and make a better School Eco-System. My aim to set up 11 libraries at 11 clusters (one library per cluster) of my block by the end of July 2020. The collected funds will be utilized for buying books for children in English, Hindi, and Santhali. Also, I will be collecting funds from government stakeholders, sponsors, and other organizations for making a better library.
