Who we are

"Hi ! We are 6 to 17 years old children from small villages in Tamilnadu. Every day, after school, we join up in Gramium Center to do our homework, learn about computers and English language. As children, we love imagining stories where we turn into pirates, soldiers or superheroes. By reading, we wish to enlarge our imagination but also improve our English skills ! It is said that we would also develop our attention, communication skills, memory skills, problem solving analysis... All this ?! Please ! Help us to access the wonderful world of books !"

Our work and its impact

Gramium is an NGO created in 1991. Our vision : "We want rural communities with self-esteem, self-reliance and self-sufficiency as dreamt by Mahatma Gandhi-healthy, prosperous and peaceful life for everyone."

How we will utilise these books

Gramium operates different projects, all in order to help rural communities : watersheds for farmers, Self Help Group trainings for women, construction of toilets for families in rural areas... And of course, a strong focus is given to education. Gramium operates different centers in Karur District which welcome children for after school programs. We give scholar support, coaching class, computer class and English class. Since December 2019, we also provide library class in the center based in the village of Kanakkapillaiyur ! The library is recent and needs more books but it is already a success ! We wish to enlarge the library and create other ones in other centers. All the funds will be utilized to provide English books. They will meet the few books that we have already collected since the opening of the library in December 2019. Children are able to read after school when joining up in Gramium center. After finishing their homework, children access the library and read whatever interests them. On Sundays, the library is opened from 2pm to 4pm for kids from 1st standard to 5th standard. Teachers are there to read books to the ones which are currently enable to do so. Then, kids from 6th standard and above join up from 4pm to 6pm. In the future, we hope to replicate the library in our other centers. The more books, the more libraries, the more children reading, the better the education.
