How we will utilise these books

Educate Girls currently operates successfully in over 14,000 villages in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. By leveraging the Government’s existing investment in schools and by engaging with a huge base of community volunteers, Educate Girls helps to identify, enroll and retain out-of-school girls and to improve foundational skills in literacy and numeracy for all children (both girls and boys). This helps deliver measurable results to a large number of children and avoids parallel delivery of services. Pratham Books has published over 4000 books, and distributed more than 30 million printed books and story cards (mini story books) across India in 15 years. With colorful illustrations, localized content in mother tongue languages, and easy access, their books help overcome the barriers to reading and help share the joy of reading with many children across India and globally as well - through their award-winning technology platforms - StoryWeaver and Donate-a-Book. The funds received through this campaign will be utilized to set up 250 Pratham Books classroom libraries in 250 government primary schools in the Banswara District of Rajasthan that are currently part of the Educate Girls learning intervention. These children have no/poor access to engaging books apart from their textbooks, and have limited reading resources available at home. By distributing and setting-up 250 classroom libraries with more than 25,000 books that are in a language familiar to the child, we are hoping to inculcate a culture of reading in these 250 schools. We believe that access to these books will improve reading habits as well as encourage read aloud or shared reading sessions in the classroom.
