Who we are
"It takes a village to raise a child" Our kids have shown significant Reading Comprehension Growth over the last term. This term, we are renovating our library which will directly impact our 251 students. Towards, this "The Read, Grow, Glow Program" is hoped to serve each student at his own grade level and give him/her the joy of reading. Sincerely, Fellows of CHSS Koyambedu.
Our work and its impact
We are Teach for India fellows working in the Corporation Higher Secondary School here in Koyambedu, Chennai. We directly serve 251 students across grade 6, grade 7 and grade 8. We are in the process of renovating our library. This campaign is aimed at bringing Pratham Levelled Books to our school library. Some of us have been working with these kids for quite some time .Looking at what they are capable of is nothing short of brilliance. Their roots hails from troubled families and most of them have not seen the world past their street. It is not fair to blame fate for their misfortunes."
How we will utilise these books
The Teach For India Fellowship program, is an opportunity for India’s brightest and most promising youth, from the nation’s best universities and workplaces, to serve as full-time teachers to children from low-income communities in some of the nation’s most under-resourced schools. Through this experience of teaching in classrooms and working with key education stakeholders like students, principals, and parents, our Fellows get exposed to the grassroot realities of India’s education system and begin to cultivate the knowledge, skills, and mindsets necessary to attain positions of leadership in education and identify their role in building a wider movement for educational equity in the country. We are interested in bringing books to our under resourced school library. The funds are to be solely used for procuring Pratham Leveled Books for our School Library!
