Who we are
In collaboration with the Cluster Resource Coordinator of Sithan, I am trying to raise books i.e. libraries for 10 schools in Olpad Block of rural Surat, Gujarat. These books will heavily aid children from 'halpati' community (scheduled tribes). Children who don't even receive bare minimum support from their households for pursuing education. The responsibility for their education falls entirely on the schools they go to. We want to ignite the passion of learning in them which the communities they hail from rarely focus on.
Our work and its impact
My name is Shuvopriyo Roy, and I am a Gandhi Fellow. I have been working in the Olpad block of Surat district for the past 1.5 years under the District Transformation Program, Surat. I am graduate from Christ University, Bangalore batch of 2014-17 having pursued a bachelor's in Economics, Mathematics, Statistics.
How we will utilise these books
We work with government stakeholders, specifically cluster resource coordinators and block resource coordinators under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan to improve the student learning outcomes by working on the capacity building of our stakeholders. We work at grass root level in collaboration with them to deal with challenges which are detrimental to student learning outcomes. The funds will be utilized to set up 10 libraries in classrooms of 10 schools of Olpad taluka : Sithan (7 schools) and Sandhiyer (3 schools). Libraries which will be accessed by students from the 'halpati' community i.e. scheduled tribes. These children have difficulty coping with education they receive due to bare minimum support received from home. We want to ignite their interest in reading and catapult them towards the world of learning.
