Who we are
Dear Donors, I am working as a Gandhi fellow in the district of Vidisha, Madhya Pradesh. We are working with the coaches and facilitators in the education department for improving better teaching practices. Currently, We are working in building functional libraries in 60 Government schools which are to be made into model schools or demonstration schools in 2 blocks of Vidisha. The idea is to draw the interest of the kids to the school and improve their reading habits with interesting story telling practices in the Assembly or be it Bal sabha.
Our work and its impact
Dear donors, I am Ankita Choudhary. I am working as a Gandhi fellow in Piramal Foundation for education and leadership, in one of the aspirational district as identified by the NITI AYOG- Vidisha, Madhya Pradesh. Gandhi fellowship is a two-year full-time program which helps the fellow to develop some key skills while working on the ground with the education department, as well as these fellows, also provide assistance in the growth of the teachers, principal, coaches and facilitators of the District Education Department.
How we will utilise these books
Our work is to improve the student learning outcomes through different school processes, mainly Assembly, BALA, Library, BalSabha and community. The primary objective of this campaign is to get books for the schools, where there is already vacant room for the library and they lack good interactive books in their library. The secondary and most important aim is to inculcate reading habits by Story telling methods during BalSabha and also to include a library period in the routine. The idea is to improve the thinking ability and creativity of the young minds thorough pictorial colourful and writing books. The objective of our work is to make the school building an interesting place for the kids. As a group of 4 fellows, we have taken responsibility for creating 60 functional libraries in two blocks of Vidisha. We have identified 30 schools in each block where library has to be set and books will be made available as per the number of student in each school. The old books will be donated to other schools The Principals of these model schools will then enable others for introducing this library campaign in his/her subordinate schools and will also share the best practices for cross learning. We are aiming to impact more than 120 schools of these two blocks. This will help us in providing books for more than seven thousand students. These 7 thousand students would be the direct beneficiaries of this campaign. All these books will directly reach to the 60 schools. The focus is on children of standard 3rd, 5th and 8th. Further they will be enabled to connect to donors of nearby private schools or establishing a book mela to ensure the sustainability of the campaign.
