Who we are
"Welcome to the class of Joy, smile always, have a nice day! :) " This is how I and my 38 5th graders greet everyone who walks through the doors of our class! We're from a low-income private school in Ahmedabad. We are people who take ownership of our learning and building a library filled with books will not only help us in learning new words of English by ourselves, but, would also allow us to broaden our imagination and keep our creative side fuelled! We thank you for all your support! :)
Our work and its impact
I am a 2018 Teach For India Fellow working in Ahmedabad. I teach 38 5th graders! I'm an engineer by profession and after quitting my job and taking a gap year spent in volunteering with NGOs and backpacking across USA, I ended up joining Teach For India. Since one year, I've been teaching 38 kids and they've truly become my place of joy! :)
How we will utilise these books
We at TFI believe that every child deserve an excellent education and our vision is that one day every child will attain excellent education. We believe education to be beyond books, we believe in holistic development of our children, as well as connecting with their families to get a better gauge of the environment our kids are brought up in. The funds will be used in expanding our library. Inclusion of books with Indian context at every reading level will not only aspire the kids to read more but also add more fun to their reading. I also plan to purchase library kit with STEM books so that learning is taken beyond just lectures.
