Who we are
Sabarmathi Gurukulam is a dream project of Smile Welfare Foundation, an academy with difference. Sabarmathi follows the gurukulam principle situated in a vast open area, filled with flora and fauna, and built in just the perfect place for all our pupils, volunteers and visitors. There are no norms on the fees and donations; Students MAY pay how much ever possible by them, may not always be in the form of currency, it could also be the work (at the fields near/ kitchen/library). Sabarmathi also have an open library which has all types of books from stories, literature to competitive exams.
Our work and its impact
SMILE welfare foundation is a legally registered, non-profit voluntary organization working for the upliftment of underprivileged children. SMILE is managed by a group of young professionals working in various backgrounds. We believe that meaningful & quality education is one of the important ingredients in the development of children. It transforms children into confident and bold individuals ready to take on the challenges ahead in their life. In 2004, 20 youngsters just out of their colleges and onto their first jobs, believed that they had it in them to change the lives of those less fortunate people around them. So SMILE WELFARE FOUNDATION was born on the shores of the Besant Nagar Beach, in Chennai on April 4, 2004. Today, SMILE WELFARE FOUNDATION, has changed many lives, replaced frowns with SMILE’s in many faces. And the journey continues.
How we will utilise these books
Smile Welfare Foundation's dream is to bring SMILE to as many faces as we can in this world. Our primary focus is to help economically & socially backward children by providing them love, support and education and to make them feel as you and I felt in our childhood. Smile's Sabarmathi gurukulam has an open library which is accessible to all individuals/students at any point of time. The raised funds will be utilized to buy books for the library specially for children in Ehglish, Tamil and Hindi. These books will be utilized by the volunteers to enlighten the children in villages around sabarmati.
