Know more about us
Who we are
We are children from rural Maharashtra belonging to under privileged class. We are deprived of availability of good interesting reading material and well equipped libraries in our schools and villages. We believe that availability of good reading material is immensely valuable to empower us to be well developed, independent and socially conscious human beings.
Our work and its impact
We are a Registered Charitable Trust (NGO) working for rural children and rural women aiming for better quality of life through better training and educational opportunities. We Work in about 180 villages from 9 districts of Maharashtra. There are about 600 teachers conducting various educational activities for around 25000 beneficiary Students in a year with just 5-6 administrative staff under the guidance of trustees. Our efforts have impact on children's exposure to preschool as well as reducing number of drop-outs in formal school years. We also have devised a six months training course for semi-literate rural women to work as facilitators.
How we will utilise these books
We target to achieve personality development and empowerment of the beneficiaries through our activities. *Teachers' Training for semi literate rural women to work as facilitators at Balwadis / schools *Refresher Residential Camps for the Teachers *Running Balwadis wherever needed *Hobby (music, dance, handicraft) / Learning Enhancement (puzzles, games, skill development) Classes (at Government Schools) *Vocational training courses are conducted for teachers *Balbhavan: Activity Center for Children (karate/Yoga training, other activities as above and Competitions) *Libraries (mobile, regular) for Adults and Children (Teachers get to read books,an opportunity they never had in their school days.) *Publishing bi-monthly magazine that covers women problems, nutrition and health issues, socio economic scenarios and values, scientific developments, environmental awareness and healthy entertainment *Publishing training material *Science Experiments / Exhibitions *Vacation Camps for Children *Step-up in teachers' and children's imagination and creativity through various activities We intend to distribute books among teachers at different centres so that they can further use these books to develop healthy reading habit among students. The teachers themselves would read the books as well as make students read the books loud in the class turn by turn. It will be followed by question-answer session based on such reading that would include some value adding discussions. The interested students will be allowed to carry books home, with a proper record. At the center, even parents will be allowed to read the books. Eventually, it will nurture the curiosity, imagination and creativity of the readers.
