Who we are
Kaliyuva Mane [meaning 'Home for learning'] is a quasi residential free school based on the outskirts of Mysore, run by Divya Deepa Charitable Trust, for "out of system" children(School drop-outs, Child labourers, Children from traumatic backgrounds, Children from broken families, underprivileged children from rural illiterate parents). The school runs on the philosophy, 'School for children' rather than 'Children for school'. Age range is 5-17 years. There are 114 children who can understand Kannada and English. Funds are required to build a good library for these opportunity deprived children to fulfil their willingness to read..learn..and explore!!
Our work and its impact
Divyadeepa initiated its activities in village Srirampura on the outskirts of Mysore during 1992. Condition of the rural school was not up to the mark. Due to illiteracy, ignorance and poverty of the parents, lack of infrastructure in the school, children used to either drop out or fail to reach the desired educational standards. So Divyadeepa started conducting supplementary classes free of cost for the benefit of these children. Divya Deepa was registered as a public charitable trust in 1999. Kaliyuva Mane - a free alternative school was started in the year 2005.
How we will utilise these books
As per Annual Status of Education Report 2014, 51.2% of 5th standard rural children cannot read standard II level text book of their mother tongue and only 26.1% can solve a 3 digit by one digit division problem. In rural India, only ten children complete college education out of 100 children who enrol in primary schools. We are running a free children home where accommodation, food are provided in an atmosphere charged with Love, Care & Empathy. We also an eco-conscious school for these OUT OF SYSTEM children. More than 50% of our children do not have formal schools to learn at all! We feel every educated person with values is an asset to the society, nation and to the world at large. Divya Deepa Trust will establish a Library in its campus consisting of books which can teach them not only academics but also act as an interface to an external world. Books should make children evince interest and fulfil their curiosity to learn different things and explore the world in a better way.
