Who we are
We are 2 classes of 20 members each in third grade. We are a vivacious bunch and love to learn and explore new things. We are currently at a "Pre- Emergent Level" - which means that "the student have limited or no understanding of oral or written English, and therefore will be participating by listening". But we are working very hard to change that in our government Byatarayanapura grade 3 classroom. And within 2 months of Teach For India Intervention we can now read and write some basic words!
Our work and its impact
I Dipti Samidurai, am a 2015 - 2017 Teach For India Fellow. I was previously working in an IT company for 3 years before I joined Teach For India.
How we will utilise these books
I am currently teaching in a government school, situated in Byatarayanapura, Bangalore. I teach some 40 odd - very hyper - 3rd grade kids, who are very curious and want to learn English. They are currently learning everything in Kannada so their English knowledge is limited to Alphabets and I want them to be able to access the entire world. I want my class to have a library so that they can develop the beautiful habit of reading and thereby positively adding on to their exposures and mindsets. I am working with the vision that one day all my kids become morally responsible individuals with the confidence to achieve his/her dreams and contribute towards the positive development of the society. The funds will be utilized towards building a class library which will have a variety of books that will help build a better society of well learned and informed citizens of tomorrow.
