Who we are
Samerth is working in the unreached tribal areas with the Baiga tribes to ensure that the children have access to education. We run early childhood centres for children of 3 to 6 years of age where there are no government anganwadis. We focus on comprehensive development of children. The idea is to mainstream these children into government schools. We are looking at raising funds for books for these resource centers so that 3000 children in 80 locations can enjoy reading.
Our work and its impact
Samerth is a non profit organization. We work with marginalised communities where environment for better education/learning is a dream. Samerth is also visualising of promoting universalisation of elementary education with any discrimination. Through this support we would want that children from the remote and unreached areas of tribal district of Chhattisgarh are able to experience the world, through reading, better understanding and self-introspection and knowledge creation. Also they learn to choose about their lives, career and livelihoods.
How we will utilise these books
Firstly we have created space for children through early childhood education centres where each child can experience learning. Samerth provides individual care and learning opportunity as per the skill of each child. This has created an rippling impact on the community as they have seen the children's holistic growth at centres. They could demand 120 anganwadis and nutrition from the government. Samerth started to address the needs of 'out of school children' and that resulted in parents of 250 children to value the importance of education and help them to restart their schooling. While working on RtE the teachers of government schools have started to ask for innovative TLMs and setting up of libraries in 70 schools though limited in number and types. Government teachers and community members have started to demand a space such as 'resource centres' so that they can experiment innovative ways of learning. With the available funds we will support schools to establish libraries and fill them with books that are child friendly, creative and opens up imagination.
