Who we are
We are currently expanding Qissagadh, our Active Library in Kotla Mubarakpur. This fully functional library cum computer centre is open seven days a week for the benefit of disadvantaged young people from our Khan Market Servants’ Quarters and Sunder Nursery Basti Nizamuddin communities, as well as young people from the Kotla area. We also wish to establish a library at our field location in Savda-Ghevra J.J. Resettlement Colony.
Our work and its impact
For the past thirteen years we have worked for the empowerment of disadvantaged young people; we work in Khan Market, Nizamuddin Sunder Nursery Basti and Savda-Ghevra J.J. Resettlement Colony (on the Northwest Delhi border, 7 km. from Mundka) in New Delhi, India.
How we will utilise these books
The Kutumb Foundation is dedicated to promoting the total development of the individual by way of building language skills, bridging developmental gaps, and addressing issues of identity; this process of exposure is accomplished through theatre and football, among other creative methods. Peer leadership and democratic decision making empowers the young people of Kutumb to take charge of their own communities. Our Active Library is a safe space where young people can come together for independent research, reading and collaborative learning. Students will not only consume knowledge, but will also produce their own interpretations and understandings of what they have learned. In this way, you will be helping to address the disparity between disadvantaged young people and those with better material opportunities, in terms of access to books and supportive learning environments.
