Who we are
What - A post school community centre that will focus on amalgamating the needs and desires of these kids in a blend of learning, leisure, and pleasure. Why - To inch 200 kids closer to realising their dreams and providing them with a hopeful and promising future. How - By providing the immediate intervention required to put these kids on a different life path and exposing them to the best resources that can put them on par with others irrespective of their socio-economic backgrounds.
Our work and its impact
My name is Tooshan Srivastava, and I am a TeachForIndia 2013 fellow. During my fellowship years, I taught grades V and VI in a low income private school in Pune. After completing my fellowship, I have decided to stay back and continue to teach for another year. In a hope to be as effective in helping these kids as possible, I am building a community center that aims at providing these kids with the best resources and learning environment, and I need your help in bringing this space to life.
How we will utilise these books
It is rightly said that 'Necessity is the mother of invention'. With a short stint at teaching, I have realised that sustainability is one aspect that can bring about a transformational education, and its most promising factor is a congenial ecosystem. In a hope to build such a place, I am creating this after school community centre for my students. Good books have served to be a major part of my development and I want my students to experience the same in their lives, and with the help of a functional library we can hope to give these 200 kids a better future, a better life, a better self. The funds that I receive are going to be used for setting up the library at the community centre. We do not have any cupboards for storing books and ensuring safety, and it's a big hurdle that we are currently facing. Most alarmingly important fact is that we have a lot of kids coming in and not enough books to cater to their needs. Through this campaign, I am hoping to raise funds which can suffice the reading needs and desires of the kids coming to my community centre.
