Who we are
A class of 41 enthusiastic kids, deprived of books that they would voraciously read if they get a chance to. A bunch of 41, who are not yet aware of their own potential. A bunch that's waiting to fly!
Our work and its impact
I am Neida Khurshid, an Architect by profession, with a profound love for stationery. I believe in miracles. I believe in magic. I believe "Whatever is the question, love is the answer." Now that brings me to who I am, everyday: I am Neida Khurshid, a fellow in Teach For India. I am a teacher, friend and a guide to a very eager and bright bunch of 41 girls in F.D. English School, Jamalpur. I teach in the afternoon shift. My kids are the reason I wake up every morning. They love coming to the class and that puts me up into gear. They challenge me. They push my abilities. I want to give them the education they deserve.
How we will utilise these books
What work I do: I teach a class of 41 2nd graders in F.D. English School, Jamalpur. Besides the school curriculum, I teach them the Teach For India curriculum too, which involves Literacy, Math, Speaking & Listening and Values. I also try and bring in exposure to them by guiding them to their areas of interest. How does it impact society?: My kids belong to a low-income community in the packed area of Jamalpur. To provide them with an education that caters to their individual needs, I believe, will help them grow more confident and reassured of themselves. The society they belong to has not seen much of the world; has not had much exposure. Through the education I give them, I hope to open avenues for them so that they become global citizens of the world. The funds will be utilized in the classroom. I aim to build a library by the end of this year. I want to provide them each with a book in their grade level that they can read, in turn building confidence. I aim to build vocabulary and a taste for reading. The books will be used solely for reading purposes.
