Who we are
We are a school of 300 children studying in Government middle primary school in Arundathinagar,Bangalore. We come from a low-income background, our parents work as house maids and labourers. We cannot afford to buy books but are very eager to learn. Our miss says that we need many books at our reading level for us to learn and grow. Please help us read so that we can lead. Our work and its impact
Me and my colleague Aishwarya Santosh, are doing a two-year fellowship with Teach for India. We are teaching a third grade and a fourth grade classroom respectively in a Government school in Bengaluru.
How we will utilise these books
We teach English and Maths to a class of 40 eager learners each. We integrate a lot of values and life skills in the lessons we teach. We want our classrooms to be an exemplar set of kids who become responsible citizens of the community. We will work with the community to have them investing in educating their children. We also want to empower the community to hold the Government/ School accountable for their children's learning and growth. The funds will be used to set up a common library for our school which will be accessible to 300 children studying here. Since the students are primarily from Kannada medium, these books in English, Kannada and Hindi will help them learn in more languages. We also plan to take the library into the community by next year.
